Prof José Martines MD MSc PhD - Chairman
After some years as a lecturer in medicine (paediatrics) in Brazil José joined the World Health Organisation some twenty years ago, working as a senior official in the department which deals with pregnancy, infancy and adolescence. Prof. Martines retired in early 2013 but he continues to work for the WHO as a Consultant. His work takes him all round the world and he is thus able to visit some of our overseas projects.
Christian Brown OBE
Christian spent his early years first at Saatchi &Saatchi and then 10 years working as for Richard Branson at the Virgin Airship and Balloon as Head of PR for Hot air balloons including all of Richard's round he word flights. He now owns a PR company that utilises amongst other things Hot Air Balloons. Actively involved in national and local charity work doing everything from setting up a social enterprise and local post office to building a community centre he was awarded an OBE for his charitable activity in 2012. When he can helps out at the post office in Antartica as he mentors the Antarctic Heritage Trust PR team and recently co-ordinated the BBC documentary Penguin Post Office
Matthew Cavanagh LLM (Commercial law) (with Distinction); LLB (Hons); BA (Asian Languages); JP (Queensland, Australia)
Matthew is a solicitor in England & Wales, Queensland and the High Court of Australia; specialising in banking and finance, investment funds, private equity and hedge funds, energy and infrastructure. A former partner in the London office of international law firm, King & Wood Mallesons, and currently senior counsel with the Qatari sovereign wealth fund. In his career to date he has worked for three of the top five law firms in the world (including firms in the UK's 'Magic Circle' and New York's 'White Shoe' firms) and across the globe in Australia, London, New York, China, Africa and the Middle East. Matthew is a Liveryman and Freeman of the City of London, a member of the Law Society, the Carlton Club and Reform Club, and an active supporter of the theatre, historical and museum communities of London. He splits his time between Doha and London.
Maurizio Fantato MCIM FRSA FRGS
An experienced marketing and digital communications consultant, worked as an Account Director for a B2B PR practice and currently in the public sector. Maurizio is widely travelled having lived in South America and other European countries and he is also the Vice-Chairman of a charity concerned with European Education. He is actively engaged in his local community having co-founded a transport development group and is also active in the national council of a learned society. He was Hon.Secretary and Treasurer of the Foundation from 1998 to 2009.
Linda Helm - Hon. Treasurer
Linda worked for the Diplomatic Service and as a Press Officer at New Scotland Yard subsequently running her own business for 15 years. Following that Linda volunteered full time for the Catholic Church, including work for the homeless. She has been a Trustee of the MOC for several years and is currently the Hon Treasurer.
Andrew Lane B.A Hons (Exeter), Charted Insurance Institute Financial Planning Certificate. He has worked in the financial services sector for 20 years the vast majority within Lloyds Banking Group and currently works at their Consumer Finance operations head office. Outside of work Andrew is an active member of his parish serving on the finance committee and more recently has been appointed a Foundation Governor of the parish primary school. He is married to Clare who he met at university and they have a son who is currently an undergraduate at the University of Cardiff.
Claire Palmer, LLB (Hons)
Claire is a barrister at Thomas More Chambers (Called to the Bar in 2003) specialising in employment and commercial litigation, but also with experience of a wide range of common law. She is on the Attorney-General's C Panel and regularly acts for the Government as well as private employers, charities, sporting and political bodies. In 2008 Claire trekked the Great Wall of China for charity, and she regularly assists the Honorable Society of Lincoln's Inn by giving advice and advocacy training to aspiring barristers including encouraging a wider range of applicants. Outside of the law, Claire is an avid rugby fan and keen skier. She is our youngest Trustee and was appointed in October 2012.
Stephen Screech KSG
Stephen spent many years in a variety of departments of the Bank of England before entering the private sector twenty years ago in which he acts as a professional trustee. He currently resides in France and has been knighted by the Pope in recognition of his extensive charitable activities. He is a passionate researcher on Aragonian medieval history, with an unparalleled grasp of genealogical and heraldic matters and is fluent in seven languages.
